End of year commemorative book for an Imperial German Army leaders course. Can't quite figure out exactly what this course was, but I would think that it would have been some kind of General Staff course for higher ranking officers that took place from 1903 to 1906. Among others, Freiherr von Richthofen (father of the Red Baron) took part in it. There is also a memorial page for a Otto von Estorff in it who was killed in the battle of Ongajira in April 1904 against the Herero in DSW (German Southwest Africa). There are also a couple of pages about German Colonial troops in Africa and maybe the participants of the course were sent there to observe? This course might have also been part time, whilst the officers were still actively serving in the field? Really not sure and the book does not give much of a clue in that regard. The book is kind of like an end of course memento for those that took part in it. It is very large and would have been quite expensive when made, but time has damaged this one a fair bit. Does anyone have any further details about von Estorff and the battle of Ongajira (I cannot find anything online) or would anyone have a clue as to what course these guys were attending? There are a very large number of illustrations and photos in the book.
The book is hardback and has a total of close to 100 un-numbered pages. It measures 17” x 10 1/2”. Unpacked weight of the book is 1.41kg. Please see the sample pics to get an idea of the book's condition.
